Anyone who visits the forums on a regular basis knows that I am a very conservative type of man. I believe in law and order, and punishing crime. The merits and justifications of war are debatable. However, being a conservative and I believe in strict punishment of criminals, I also believe that our penal system should be a place of correction not consignment. This is inspired by the stories of a workmate that left his previous job at TDC. It is absurd to argue that prisons are strictly places of punishment, they should also be places of compassion and reform; that is it should change lives for the better. Of all the social and societal issues that we debate day in day out in this country, the state of prisons goes nearly unnoticed. It is another symptom of a society that has its priorities out of true.
